RÜFÜS DU SOL Concert

As the rain started to pour

When you get to stay in a hostel, you get to meet people from around the world. You also get to make new friends and memories with them in your short time together. Now let me tell you about our Friday night in Medellin, Colombia and how it is something that I will never be able to forget.

RÜFÜS DU SOL is a popular EDM artist that mixes in a bit of house, and when I heard that they were coming I thought “eh, there are better things I could be doing on my Friday night”. Luckily, I was sitting at a table with my new Swiss friends who were very persuasive. The ticket only cost $50 USD, and our Swiss friends were excellent at guilt tripping us into going. Naturally, it took us about 15 mins of casual conversation before we agreed to go.

When we got there, we could see hundreds of people in line and I thought that we screwed ourselves for getting there so late. But it turns out that was a blessing in disguise. We finally arrived in the stadium but were in the far back, meaning we had a ton of room to dance around and just be ourselves. We met up with other friends from the hostel and ended up having a big group, just dancing and having fun. About a third of the way through the concert, we could feel some raindrops starting to fall, and thought that it was about to get rained out. I thought to myself “Great. I just spent money on a concert that was about to get canceled.” But in Medellin, that doesn’t seem to be a thing. It starts dumping rain while RÜFÜS is playing Innerbloom (his biggest and best song) and you just couldn’t help but feel alive in that moment. It was almost something you would see in a movie but never thought you would experience. I didn’t think I was capable of producing that much serotonin, and it was made with the combination of old and new friends.

So to wrap up the message of this blog post, if you have the opportunity to go see a concert in Medellin, Colombia, do not hesitate to go. You never know, it could even top my own experience!
